Haast’s Eagle, reconstructed at 1:20 scale and hand-painted in polyurethane resin. 100 × 170 mm. Sculpted by J. Miguel Aparicio, made to order.
The largest eagle ever known, weighing up to 15 kilograms and preying on moa several times its own weight. It vanished around 1400 CE when Polynesian settlers hunted out its prey. Genetic work shows its closest living relative is the little eagle, evidence of an extraordinarily rapid increase in size after reaching New Zealand.
Modelled by hand in heat-hardened clay over a wire armature, moulded in silicone and cast in polyurethane resin. Every copy is cleaned, retouched and painted by hand in acrylics, so no two pieces are ever strictly identical.
Made to order. Each casting is finished individually, so please allow time for preparation before dispatch.
