Cave bears are known from more complete skeletons than almost any other Ice Age mammal, thanks to the thousands that died hibernating in European caves. Tooth wear shows a largely vegetarian diet, and the steeply domed forehead reproduced here is the clearest way to tell the species from a brown bear.
Modelled by hand in heat-hardened clay over a wire armature, moulded in silicone and cast in polyurethane resin. Every copy is cleaned, retouched and painted by hand in acrylics, so no two pieces are ever strictly identical.
